Regional bank | New loyalty platform, built with the processor

Helping build a processor's loyalty platform, then moving a bank onto it

When Fiserv (then First Data) built its Premier Loyalty Platform, the founder worked on version 1 from the ground up as the bank's technical lead. The bank then moved the rewards programs for its retail, commercial, and small business credit cards off its legacy TSYS loyalty platform and onto the new system. The migration took place in 2016 as its own project, running alongside the bank's card processing conversion from TSYS to Fiserv, and went live one month after the main conversion cutover.

What the work covered

  • Shaping version 1 of the platform alongside the processor's product and engineering teams
  • Defining earn, redeem, and reward rules for retail, commercial, and small business card programs
  • A big-bang cutover: standing up version 1 of the new platform and converting every existing point balance onto it in a single event, with careful reconciliation so no cardholder lost points
  • Integration with card processing, customer servicing, and the RAZR redemption partner
  • Internal bank integrations with ACH, digital banking, core processing platforms, and settlement
